From Equipment Ratings To A Realistic Budget

A nameplate power rating is a starting point, not a monthly electricity bill. Running hours, operating load and the tariff determine energy cost. A 1 kW electrical load running three hours each day for 30 days uses 90 kWh. At an example tariff of 50 PKR/kWh, the energy-only estimate is 4,500 PKR. Your bill can also include demand charges, taxes and fixed charges, which are not included here.

Electrical Input And Shaft Power Are Different

Watts and kilowatts in the running-cost calculator represent electrical input. Mechanical horsepower represents useful shaft output, so the calculator divides HP × 0.7457 by the entered motor efficiency to estimate input kW. For a 1.5 HP motor at 85% efficiency, the estimate is approximately 1.316 kW. Do not divide a measured electrical-input reading by motor efficiency again. Use measured input power where available; voltage multiplied by current alone does not account for power factor or three-phase arrangements.

Compare The Full Cost Of Two Options

An efficient appliance can cost more to purchase but less to run. Compare both options under the same hours, days and tariff. Simple payback is the extra purchase cost divided by monthly energy savings. If Option B costs 30,000 PKR more and saves 1,500 PKR each month, its simple payback is 20 months. Maintenance, financing and changing tariffs can change the result; a lower running cost does not by itself prove that replacement is worthwhile.

Project Quantities Need Checked Assumptions

Solar generation estimates use capacity, peak sun hours and system losses; they do not replace a site shading survey or electrical design. Concrete estimates multiply slab dimensions and add a waste allowance, excluding reinforcement and labour. Generator fuel budgets should use measured consumption at the intended load. Pump water volume depends on measured flow, not only the pump's rated horsepower, because pipe restrictions and head affect discharge.

Review Photos And Source Readings

Small lettering, glare and worn labels can cause incorrect text recognition. Compare each candidate power reading with the original photo before using it. The photo calculator downloads an English text-recognition engine and processes the image in your browser. Watchlist values are entered manually and saved on this device; target messages appear inside the tool, not as automatic live-feed alerts or background notifications.

Put A Measured Cost On Utility Losses

Compare equal operating duty, not just equipment ratings. Reducing measured input from 75 to 60 kW for 16 hours per day across 300 days avoids 72,000 kWh per year. At an illustrative tariff of 45 PKR/kWh, that is 3,240,000 PKR in energy-only savings before investment, demand charges and taxes. A water leak of 2 litres per minute running continuously loses 1,051.2 m³ in 365 days. At a combined avoidable variable cost of 150 PKR/m³, its annual cost is 157,680 PKR. Include pumping and treatment costs only once.

Compressed-air losses use free-air flow multiplied by measured compressor specific electrical power. This is equivalent energy cost, not guaranteed recoverable savings: controls may keep an unloaded machine consuming power after leaks are repaired. Verify before-and-after input at comparable pressure and production demand. Changing the currency label does not exchange amounts.

Capacity And Payback Need Different Decisions

Power-factor correction reduces apparent load for a steady sinusoidal load; it does not itself establish kWh savings. The theoretical kvar result is not a capacitor-bank specification. Qualified electrical staff must assess harmonics, switching and resonance first. Project comparisons rank simple payback using implementation cost divided by annual savings after added operating costs. A 150,000 PKR project with 100,000 PKR gross annual savings and 10,000 PKR added annual costs has a 20-month payback. Projects without positive net savings have no positive payback. Financing, lifetime and discounting are excluded. Export the CSV before reloading because projects remain in page memory.

These calculations support preliminary planning, not equipment selection, structural approval or financial advice. Verify units, tariffs and measurements before using results for a purchase or plant modification.
