Plant Utilities Calculators

Utilities Experts

Pick a utility, enter your plant readings and results update as you type — cooling tower approach and makeup, compressed-air leak cost, chiller kW/TR, nitrogen cost, fire-water storage, ETP F/M ratio, RO recovery, biomass power, boiler efficiency, WHRB steam and gas-turbine heat rate.

How To Use These Calculators

Each calculator ships with typical default values so you can see the shape of a result immediately. Replace every field with your own measured readings — nameplate ratings, log-sheet temperatures, flowmeter totals and laboratory analyses — before drawing conclusions. Results update instantly as you type, and the WhatsApp button sends your exact inputs and outputs to the Utilities Experts team for a second opinion.

Cooling Towers And Chillers

Cooling-tower approach (cold water minus wet-bulb) is the single best health indicator for a tower: a rising approach at the same load and wet-bulb points to fouled fill, blocked nozzles or weak airflow. For chillers, kW/TR combines flow, temperatures and compressor power into one efficiency figure; a water-cooled machine much above 0.8 kW/TR usually has condenser fouling, low refrigerant or poor chilled-water ΔT.

Steam, Biomass And Waste Heat

Boiler direct efficiency compares steam heat output against fuel heat input on a gross calorific basis. Biomass results depend heavily on as-fired GCV — moisture can cut usable heat dramatically, so use lab values rather than dry-basis figures. For waste heat recovery boilers, keep outlet gas above roughly 140–150 °C with sulphur-bearing fuels to avoid acid dew-point corrosion.

Water, Effluent And Safety Systems

RO recovery and salt rejection track membrane health; rejection falling below about 95% warrants a normalised-flux check. The ETP calculator's F/M ratio flags overloaded or under-loaded biological treatment. Fire-system figures are indicative only — final design must follow your hazard class under NFPA or local code and your insurer's requirements.

These tools give planning estimates, not design values. Verify results against equipment datasheets, applicable codes and site measurements before acting on them.
